Northwoods Healthy Families

 Northwoods Healthy Families provides support for new parents during and after pregnancy. This program will offer education on your new baby’s development, answer questions you have about where to get what you need for your and your baby, and connect you with other local resources.

Newborn Visit

 Following the birth of your child, a public health nurse will contact you to see how you and the baby are doing and offer a visit to assist families with any questions or concerns you may have.

Safe Sleep

Child Development

 The early years of a child’s life are very important for his or her health and development. Click here for more information. 

First Breath

 First Breath is Wisconsin’s program to help pregnant, postpartum, and caregiving individuals become tobacco-free. First Breath Quit Coaches, trained to counsel on commercial tobacco use, provide free, individualized in-person, phone, and text-based services. Interested in getting connected? Water Testing

 The Health Department offers free annual well water testing to low-income families with pregnant women or children in the home. Water is tested for bacteria and nitrates, which can be harmful to pregnant women and children. Unsafe water test results are referred to the Department of Natural Resources for assistance resolving problems. 

Car Seat Safety

The Health Department has certified child passenger safety technicians available to assist in choosing the right car seat and ensuring proper seat installation. 

A limited supply of car seats are available to eligible Forest County families. Call today to see if you’re eligible! 

Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention

 The lead program provides screenings of children one year to six years old, education on reducing lead exposures, and follow-up for children with elevated lead levels.Visit the Wisconsin Childhood Lead Prevention Program website for additional information.View these helpful PDF guides:

Life Jacket Loaner Stations

Life Jacket Loaner Stations are located  both beaches on Lake Metonga and at the Silver Lake Beach in Laona in Forest County. People can borrow life jackets free of charge to use during boating or swimming and return when finished. Wisconsin state law requires one flotation device per person in each vessel.
