WIC

What is “WIC”?

The special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

You can contact the WIC office at 715-478-3371 open Monday – Friday from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.

WIC Foods

Wisconsin WIC helps you buy the foods you and your children need to stay healthy. The WIC foods in your monthly food package are specifically chosen to promote good health, growth, and development. With your eWIC card, you can only buy foods that are approved by WIC and are in your current benefits. The authorized foods are described in the WIC Shopping Guide and the following videos. The current food list is effective November 1, 2022 – October 31, 2025.

    Breastfeeding Support

The Health Department offers breastfeeding education and support to pregnant women, new mothers, and to women who would like to continue breastfeeding after returning to work. Breastfeeding peer counselors are moms who have breastfed and want to help other moms succeed in nursing their babies, too. By having peer counselors to talk and share thoughts, new mothers become more comfortable and confident while learning to breastfeed.

Our Forest County peer counselor for the WIC program is Anita Mihtukwsun.  She is available via call or text at 715-892-0403. She is also available via email at amihtukwsun@glitc.org.

For more breastfeeding information, please visit the Northwoods Breastfeeding Coalition website.
