Forest County COVID Vaccine Update March 12, 2021

The Forest County Health Department is currently helping to provide COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). This includes:
• Frontline healthcare personnel
• EMS
• Those who provide direct patient service or other healthcare services
• Law enforcement/Fire personnel
• Anyone 65 and older
• Educators and child care
• Individuals enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs including Family Care, Family Care Partnership, IRIS, Wisconsin’s Children’s Long-term Support Waiver, and Katie Beckett
• Some public facing essential workers including 911 operators, utility and communications infrastructure, public transit, and food supply chain
• Non-frontline essential health care personnel
• Congregate living facility staff and residents including employer-based housing, housing serving the elderly or people with disabilities, shelters, transitional housing, and incarcerated individuals

Wisconsin DHS has announced that individuals age 16 and older with certain medical conditions will be eligible for the vaccine beginning March 29th, 2021. These medical conditions are associated with an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and includes:
• Asthma (moderate-to-severe)
• Cancer
• Cerebrovascular disease (affects blood vessels and blood supply to the brain)
• Chronic kidney disease
• COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
• Cystic fibrosis
• Down syndrome
• Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
• Hypertension or high blood pressure
• Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant, blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids, or use of other immune weakening medicines
• Liver disease
• Neurologic conditions, such as dementia
• Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30-39 kg/m2)
• Overweight (BMI of 25-29 kg/m2)
• Pregnancy
• Pulmonary fibrosis (having damaged or scarred lung tissues)
• Severe Obesity (BMI 40 kg/m2 or more)
• Sickle cell disease
• Type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus
• Thalassemia (a type of blood disorder)

The Forest County Health Department continues to receive weekly vaccine allocations from the state. Individuals are then scheduled based on that allocation and their eligibility.

FCHD has provided 1,531 COVID vaccines as of March 12th, 2021.
